The College of Engineering’s research efforts fall within seven main categories: advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, cyberphysical systems, cybersecurity, energy and environment, health and biomedicine, and robotics.

Advanced manufacturing

Our researchers are improving the manufacturing industry through interdisciplinary collaborations and industrial partnerships, continuously exploring new materials and innovations in additive, medical device, and micro/nano-manufacturing.

Artificial intelligence

The College of Engineering is leading the new discipline of AI Engineering by simultaneously developing innovative AI algorithms and platforms to create powerful, adaptable, resilient, and trustworthy systems.

Cyberphysical systems

Faculy and students are working to improve cyberphysical systems by developing systems that link sensing, computation, and control to the physical world. The result is an increased capacity to sense our surroundings and control how technology affects our lives.

Cybersecurity

The College of Engineering is at the forefront of cybersecurity research, improving the privacy and security of emerging technologies such as IoT devices, cyber autonomy, and blockchain.

Energy & environment

Our researcher’s interdisciplinary approach combines civil, environmental, and energy engineering with public policy research to develop holistic solutions for the complex challenges facing our environment and energy systems.

Health & biomedicine

The College of Engineering takes an interdisciplinary approach to explore the inner workings of the human body from various perspectives. Our researchers use systems thinking and their engineering expertise to shape the future of health and biomedicine.

Robotics

Engineers from various disciplines are collaborating to create the next generation of robotics for human interaction, including stretchable electronics, miniature mobile, legged, and aerial robots, medical robotics, micro/nano-robotics, underwater robots, and IoT robots.
