Dissertation boot camp 2018

May 14-17, 2018

9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. ET

IDeATe A, Hunt Library

Sponsored by the Global Communication Center, this boot camp, which runs Monday through Thursday morning with optional afternoon support, will help you jump-start your dissertation writing process. This boot camp is open to all CMU Ph.D. students who are in or near the dissertation stage of their course of study. By the end of this boot camp, you will have:

  • Learned a range of strategies for communicating and structuring a complex dissertation project
  • Produced a one-page and a one-paragraph abstract of your dissertation or proposal, which can go directly into your final dissertation, proposal, and/or job application materials
  • Met with dissertating colleagues in other departments and GCC communication experts who will push you to clearly and succinctly distill your project description without compromising accuracy and complexity

After intense writing instruction and discussion in the morning, optional afternoon sessions will provide a dedicated time and space to JUST WRITE with a supportive group of your doctoral peers from across the university. This routine will help you develop a disciplined writing schedule that will last all summer long–along with some solidarity through this demanding process.

Registration is free. This boot camp is limited to the first 40 students to sign up. In signing up for the boot camp, we ask that you commit to attending the boot camp sessions every morning May 14-17. Breakfast will be provided courtesy of the Graduate Student Assembly.

Questions can be directed to gcc-cmu@andrew.cmu.edu. Register by May 11.
