Undergraduate Research Projects at the Cardiovascular Biomechanics Laboratory Kerem Pekkan, Biomedical Engineering Design and construction of a micro- scale in vitro pulsatile flow loop to study early embryonic cardiovascular flow fields A robust pulsatile research micro flow loop will be designed and build that will replicate the unsteady physiological pressure and flow waveforms that is observed in the early embryonic heart. Project involves interactions with pediatric cardiologists and future particle image velocimetry experiments.
In vitro lumped parameter experimental flow loops to study non-traditional bio-inspired circulation systems Human circulation system is not the only circulation system that exists in nature. In this project we will investigate the energetics and hemodynamics of other less common circulation systems. Can be a computational or experimental project based on student interest.
Design of a patient-specific anatomy editing tool This project aims to develop a Java, OpenGl, TclTk based complex anatomy editing tool for cardiovascular surgical planning applications. Experience in polygonal computer aided design and game graphics technology is required. It can be a module to the following OpenSource effort: http://villacamozzi.marionegri.it/~luca/vmtk/doku.php
