Engineering the Future

cONTACT uS

"These days, a man who says a thing cannot be done is quite apt to be interrupted by some idiot doing it." So said U.S. author Elbert Hubbard at the turn of the 20th century.

One hundred years later, innovation, entrepreneurship, commitment, and dedication continue to drive our country's economic and social gains. No longer a standalone nation, American businesses now produce and compete on a global scale. The issues we face are multi-faceted, the scope of work more complex.

To stay competitive, we must leverage education. Students and faculty at CIT represent the best and brightest minds, committed to the future of engineering and the opportunity for investigation, discovery, challenge, and leadership.

We encourage you to make an investment at CIT. Apply our faculty's expertise to your R&D, equip a laboratory, build a library. Establish a fellowship in your field or offer a grant, as Andrew Carnegie once did for then unknown scientist Marie Curie.

Working together, we can engineer the future.

Research & Development

We welcome the chance to explore opportunities for your business and for the college. Please contact us at (412) 268-8733 to begin discussions about the possibilities.

The GM Collaborative Laboratory at Carnegie Mellon is a model for successful partnerships between academia and industry. The relationship supports innovative thinking while expanding the R&D capacity of GM. Because CIT's philosophy is to involve both graduate and undergraduates in research, our students, highly sought on the job market, are exposed to the company's objectives, culture, and opportunities.

These relationships are managed through various funding streams. The establishment of a research center, the endowment of a laboratory, the creation of a named professorship or fellowship. Companies who leverage our faculty's expertise increase their intellectual capital without assuming the cost of additional hires.

Invest in Facilities

For more information about these investments, or to propose an idea for your company's involvement with CIT, please contact our Corporate Relations Office, by phone at (412) 268-8733 or by email.

It's an investment that cannot be matched by any other public relations, advertising, or marketing initiative. Endowing architecture at the college is a solid, permanent testament for any company, recognizing their achievements, but also their values. Corporate values are a strong selling point for customers, partners, and potential hires.

Laboratories, libraries, auditoriums, teaching facilities—there are numerous venues for investment that include equipping existing facilities or creating new ones. Our corporate relations staff is prepared to answer questions and work with your organization to maximize the value of your contribution and minimize the burden of its administration.

Named Fellowships & Awards

For more information about these investments, or to propose an idea for your company's involvement with CIT, please contact our corporate relations staff by phone at (412) 268-8733 or by email.

Our associations speak to who we are, whether as people or as organizations. Recognizing and rewarding excellence in others is the nature of a successful organization. As a top ten engineering school, we associate with prestigious, forward-thinking companies who invest in and value innovation.

Fellowships are funds used to support research or education. The monies are invested, retaining the principal and distributing the dividends to a specific department or faculty member. The fellowship can be named for your organization or for an individual at your discretion. Our staff will work closely with you to define criteria and handle the administration of the gift, allowing you as much or as little involvement as you choose.

Establishing a professorship or chair in a department is a contribution that supports both education and research. Companies often choose to support the work of specific faculty members or to provide support for fields of study, such as biomedical engineering, nanotechnology, green chemistry, eco-friendly energy, wearable computer technology, robotics, or materials science. Companies such as Seagate, Alcoa, and Intel have donated funds and equipment that facilitate the teaching and research capacity of individual faculty members. There are varying levels of support, ranging from a basic professorship to a department chair. Financial donations can also include high-end equipment for labs or projects.
