"This is our
traditional service-learning project dedicated to helping children. Our First
Year Advisory Board (FAB) group, which is designed to help freshmen adjust to
the rigors of college life, are taking the lead again this year," said
Treci Bonime, associate director for undergraduate studies at Carnegie Mellon's
top-ranked College of Engineering. In the past, the engineering students' efforts awarded them a place on
the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
The event will feature bagpipes, a color guard and antique cars supplied by CMU alum Harold Hall of Ellwood City, Pa.; Ed Meyer, a retired fireman from Mt. Lebanon, Pa.; and John Wherry, a retired school teacher from Clinton, Pa.
All donated toys must be unwrapped and new. The university community may donate toys at the event or in the lobbies of the following campus locations through Dec. 7: Mellon Institute, the Software Engineering Institute, Margaret Morrison Carnegie Hall, the Tepper School of Business and the University Center. University Police Officer Donald Campbell, dktb@andrew.cmu.edu, is the contact for all toy drop-off locations.
