PITTSBURGH—Carnegie Mellon University's Silicon Valley campus will host Scott Dietzen at its eighth annual graduation ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 8 at Moffett Field, Calif.
"It
is both an honor and a pleasure to get to speak to the new graduates of
Carnegie Mellon's Silicon Valley campus," said Dietzen, a Silicon Valley
entrepreneur and veteran of WebLogic and Zimbra. "As a Carnegie Mellon
alum myself, I can say that my education and network have served me well, and I
hope to share some thoughts on how the new grads can continue to parlay those
assets into successful leadership roles in the industry."
Deven
Alimchandani, one of 81 Silicon Valley graduates receiving master's degrees in
software engineering and management, praised the program for its structure,
flexibility and excellent course content. "My experience in this program
has helped me expand my business toolkit, leadership portfolio and technology
tack," said Alimchandani, who manages the service delivery management
department at Yahoo! in Sunnyvale, Calif. "I want to be a C-level of a
company and my Carnegie Mellon experience will help me get there."
Those
sentiments of academic excellence are also echoed by 2008 Carnegie Mellon
Silicon Valley alum Sarah Laiwala.
"I
can attribute my successful career to the education I received from the
Carnegie Mellon Silicon Valley program, and I'm very honored and happy to
receive the Dean's Return on Education Award. Through Carnegie Mellon, I met
very talented and innovative individuals, including students and professors,
that guided me in my career even after graduation and helped me develop my
entrepreneurial traits," said Laiwala, a developer experience product
manager at BT-Rabbit.
This
year, the Silicon Valley campus will graduate its 500th student,
adding to the more than 5,000 alumni in the San Francisco Bay area.
