PITTSBURGH—Carnegie Mellon University’s College of Engineering will host seven top journalists July 18-21 at the fourth annual CIT Information Technology Media Fellowship.

The journalists include Jessica Shambora, a reporter with Fortune Magazine; Glenn Chapman, the U.S. correspondent for Paris-based Agence French Press (AFP); Mathew Schwartz, freelance correspondent for Information Week in London, England; and reporters Lourenco Medeiros and Pedro Carpinteiro from for SIC TV; Valdemar Cruz of Unica Expresso News Magazine, and Paulo Pinto with RR/RFM radio, all from Lisbon, Portugal.

"The fellowship enables leading information technology and policy journalists to broaden and deepen their knowledge of information technology issues, and provides a unique opportunity for Carnegie Mellon faculty to share their research findings with an outstanding group of  journalism communicators," said Pradeep K. Khosla, university professor and dean of Carnegie Mellon's top-ranked College of Engineering.

The journalists meet informally with researchers from engineering. Their interviews span everything from new sensor architectures and biometrics to cybersecurity, mobile computing, robotics, nanofabrication and data storage.

The 2010 CIT media fellowships also will showcase ongoing research and collaboration with the prestigious Carnegie Mellon|Portugal Program. In October 2006, Carnegie Mellon and the Portuguese government, through its Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education, entered into a long-term collaboration to significantly expand research and education in the area of information and communication technologies.
