Media Advisory: Carnegie Mellon’s Mechanical Engineering Students Create Product Designs to Assist Elderly

Event: Carnegie Mellon University's mechanical engineering students will showcase a cache of new product prototypes designed to help elder lifestyles. Some of the novel designs include a sensor-enhanced walking cane and a more functional table top for wheelchairs.

The Senior MechE Capstone Design Project class challenges students to select a product to study, conduct extensive market research and build several physical prototypes using sophisticated computer modeling, according to Levent Burak Kara, assistant professor of mechanical engineering.
