Media Advisory: Carnegie Mellon's Mechanical Engineering Department, Aquinas Academy Help Collect School Supplies for Afghan Students

EVENT: Carnegie Mellon University engineering students and students from the Aquinas Academy primary school will join the Pittsburgh Pirates’ parrot mascot to fill holiday boxes with basic school supplies for children in Afghanistan. The program, Komak Bare Teflani Afghan, which in the Dari language means “Help the Children,” is being spearheaded by Carnegie Mellon Navy ROTC alumni now serving in Afghanistan. The drive stems from a need for basic school supplies including wooden pencils, ink pens, notebooks, paper, coloring books, rulers, scissors, tote bags, chalk, glue and crayons. Additional supplies also are needed for teachers, including flash cards for mathematics and English. The program is co-sponsored by Carnegie Mellon’s Mechanical Engineering Department and the Aquinas Academy.
