Studying Sustainability in Morocco
This past summer Modoluwamu Fatukasi traveled to Morocco and lived with a host family while conducting a research project. He investigated the potential for using sustainable energy in the country. He explored the efforts by Office National de l”Electricité (ONE) to decrease consumption and increase conservation. ONE, the body responsible for the electricity of Morocco, had launched a campaign to create awareness of energy sustainability in the local population. He interviewed several people regarding their energy use, the prices they pay, the practices they use to save energy, and their motivations for saving energy.
Fatukasi is a sophomore in chemical engineering with a minor in supply chain management. Part of his motivation to travel to Morocco was to learn Arabic and to gain a new cross-cultural experience. The trip, "instilled a belief that a different way of thinking is possible," said Fatukasi.
He participated in classroom and experiential learning as well as excursions. His trip was supported by Tartans Abroad.
