credit transfers from other schools

all the links you need

There is no comprehensive list of qualified universities or courses that we accept for transfer. Each course is evaluated on an individual basis. Engineering courses are generally NOT transferable, unless from an approved study-abroad program such as ITESM or EPFL.

If you took a course at another university, to transfer credit to Carnegie Mellon you need to send:

  • An official copy of your transcript

  • The course description and/or copy of the course syllabus

For Physics for Engineers I & II, even more information is needed:

  • Detail of the physics topics and calculus content

  • A course description for each prerequisite

  • An outline showing the physics course sequence (e.g. second course in a three course sequence)

  • A course description of the other physics courses involved in the sequence

Have the transcript sent directly from that university to:

Kurt Larsen, Assistant Dean
College of Engineering
CIT Dean’s Office, Scaife Hall 110
Carnegie Mellon University
Pittsburgh, PA 15213

A grade of “TR” will appear for earned transfer credit (similar to AP for Advanced Placement). This information can be viewed on your SIO account.  Although these credits can work toward degree requirements, they will not affect grade point averages.
