An Example of A typical First-year Student's Schedule

all the links you need

Below is an example of a common CIT first-year schedule for the fall and spring semesters.  This curriculum is intended to expose you to engineering from the onset, allowing you to gain breadth across disciplines, acquire problem-solving skills, and become acquainted with a variety of choices for your major.  You will then formally choose a major department near the end of your first year.

PLEASE NOTE: If you enter with Advanced Placement credit, you will have the flexibility to make modifications to this sample schedule. Changes can be discussed in more detail with your academic advisor.

(3 units = approx. 1 credit hour, or 3 hours of work per week)

The typical workload in the first year (exclusive of the Computer Skills Workshop) is approximately four courses per semester.

It is our belief, that first-year students will be better educated if they concentrate on learning fewer subjects well, while having time to pursue activities or interests beyond the classroom.  Furthermore, because you are transitioning from high school to college, it is best to allow yourself time to adjust to your new environment.

Overloads are NOT permitted in the first semester, except for ROTC students or students interested in non-graded courses like Physical Education courses.

Students are not permitted to carry an overload of courses until they have successfully demonstrated their ability to carry a normal load of classes.  Upon earning a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the fall, during the spring semester you may be permitted to overload.
