Undergrads Are Encouraged to participate in research

Conducting a research project can be a rewarding experience. You get to apply engineering skills and knowledge acquired in the classroom to a real-world setting. It also gives you the opportunity to work closely with our faculty and learn more about a particular field.

Research demands much of your time and energy, though. Therefore first-year CIT students can start research for credit only after having successfully completed their first semester with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. If you are interested in doing research during your first year in CIT, please follow these directions:

First, find a professor doing research that interests you:

  1. Talk to the professors in your classes about their own research.

  2. Take a look at the Undergraduate Research Office.

  3. Look through the department websites to see their research priorities and projects. You can use the navigation bar at the top of the page to visit each department

  4. There are a variety of research centers and institutes in CIT. Look through the department websites to see the types of projects that are being done.

Second, contact the professor and arrange an agreement about the research. You can search for phone numbers and email addresses at the top of this page.

Next, complete in detail the Research Approval form, which you can pick up in the Dean's Office at 110 Scaife Hall. If approved, CIT will add the research units to your record.
