The FAB is the voice of first-year students enrolled in the Carnegie Institute of Technology. The board acts as a liaison between the first-year class and administration, staff, and faculty. FAB was formed to:
President:
This individual provides central guidance to the members. The President will establish group cohesiveness, motivation, encouragement, and ensure that the organizational goals and objectives are met. He/she will bring any group concerns to the forefront. Leadership experience is a must.
Vice-President:
This individual works closely with the President to accomplish the board’s goals. In the absence of the President, the Vice-President will function in his/her role. This person will also assist in the general motivation and guidance of the board. Leadership experience is a must.
Reporter:
This individual will record notes at the meetings and share those in a consistent and timely manner with the board and the CIT Undergraduate Dean’s Office and when necessary the CIT first-year class.
Events Co-Chairs:
These two (2) individuals explore and assist in the development, planning, implementation, and organization of innovative programs, activities and events for FY CIT students. The students will help manage the functions at various events, from set-up, welcoming guest, to clean-up. This position requires good social skills. It is necessary to work closely and direct the efforts of one general assembly member and other FAB volunteers or students helping at events.
General Assembly Events Representative:
This individual will function as a committee member for the Events team.
Service-Learning Co-Chairs:
These two (2) individuals explore and assist in the development, implementation, and organization of community service projects on and/or off campus for first-year students. For example events could include the annual CIT Toy Drive, campus wide food drive, or bring your child to work day event at Carnegie Mellon. Prior community service experience is a plus.
Facebook Chair:
This individual utilizes and manages our CIT specific Facebook groups, CIT class of 2011 and FAB account. This person will collect necessary information and post content in a timely manner. Knowledge of Facebook is necessary.
Public Relations Co-Chairs:
These two (2) individuals assist in the promotion and advertising for upcoming programs, activities and events. This included both in print and by word of mouth. These individuals will need to work closely with the Design chair in creating ideas for event promotions. An upbeat, outgoing personality is necessary. It is necessary to work closely and direct the efforts of one general assembly member.
General Assembly Public Relations Representative: This individual will function as a committee member for the Public Relations team.
Graphic Design Chair:
This individual will create and design flyers, posters, assessments, and/or invitations as needed for various activities and events. This person will work closely with the Public Relations and Events Team. An interest in design or art is a plus. Must be able to design basic promotional pieces and/or be able to express a creative vision to a professional Graphic Designer.
Evaluations Co-Chair:
These two (2) individuals will assist in creation, design, distribution, and gathering of evaluations that assess programs, activities and events, along with the various needs of first-year students. It will be necessary to be available at the end of events to get students to complete assessments. You will also be asked about survey incentives in order to get students to complete these evaluations. It is necessary to work closely and direct the efforts of one general assembly member.
General Assembly Evaluations Representative:
This individual will function as a committee member for the Evaluations team.
Membership Chair:
This individual assists with meeting set-up (food and drinks) and issues related to the board. This person will also assist with membership paperwork, constitutions, and recruitment for the following years FAB.
Alumni Liaison Chair:
This individual will assist with any events, activities, and/or lectures that are through the CIT Dean’s office that involve alumni, where CIT first-year students are encouraged to attend. Events might include homecoming or buggy. This person will meet and greet the alumni that attend the first-year major receptions. This person should be outgoing and have strong social skills.
