Current Recipients

The College of Engineering (CIT) has named its 2008-2009 Faculty Awards recipients, as follows:

  • The George Tallmann Ladd Research Award was given to Mohammad Islam, Materials Science & Engineering and Chemical Engineering, and David Ricketts, Electrical & Computer Engineering, in recognition of their research, professional accomplishments, and potential.

  • William Messner, Mechanical Engineering, received the Benjamin Richard Teare Teaching Award for his excellence in teaching, course development, leadership, and contributions to curriculum development and implementation.

  • The Philip L. Dowd Fellowship Award, which recognizes educational contributions and encourages the undertaking of an educational project, has been awarded to Jose Moura, Electrical & Computer Engineering.

  • Vijayakumar Bhagavatula and Marios Savvides of Electrical & Computer Engineering received the Outstanding Research Award for their collaborative research.

  • The Steven J. Fenves Award, which acknowledges significant contribution to systems research in areas relevant to the Institute for Complex Engineered Systems, has been awarded to James Antaki.

Distinguished Professor of Engineering Award Winners

The Distinguished Professor of Engineering Award is made to a faculty member within the Carnegie Institute of Technology in recognition of exceptional achievements that have enhanced the reputation of CIT. The award consists of a gold medal and an honorarium. This award is to be given no more frequently than once every two years, when appropriate.

Winners of the Steven J. Fenves Award for Systems Research

The Steven J. Fenves Award for Systems Research will be presented to one or more individuals within Carnegie Mellon every year who have made a significant contribution to Systems research in areas relevant to ICES. The award will consist of a plaque and a gold medal or $1,500. This will be given individually to all awardees in the event that there is more than one award in any year. The award is to be presented annually (if appropriate), but no less than once every two years.

This award is designed to recognize a singular research accomplishment and is not meant to recognize an accumulated record of accomplishments. The award consists of a certificate and an honorarium. The award will be given annually (if appropriate).
