E&TIM Summer Internship: Cisco Systems, Inc.
Software Engineer

My 11-week summer internship as a software engineer with Cisco Systems, Inc. was a very rewarding experience on both the professional and personal level.

The interesting aspect of my role at Cisco was that a substantial part of my responsibilities included dealing with issues not merely revolving around coding. My team was known as Arroyo, a Video-On-Demand solutions provider acquired by Cisco back
in 2006.

Consequently, the Arroyo team still retains its "start-up" feel
despite being a part of a huge company–what this implies is that each team member plays a very dynamic role in the organization. In varying degrees, I focused on development (of new features), testing (the final product), and program management (meetings with our teams in Utah and China).

Challenging? Sure. Rewarding? Absolutely. I got to
play with a very cool product as well as have a say in its overall
development!

The E&TIM program had grounded me well for this internship. The courses I took (ranging from mobile computing to managerial economics to strategy management) along with the interactions I had with the professors provided me with a strong technical and professional base to rely on during my internship. The flexibility E&TIM offers played a huge role in bringing about a well-rounded education–and for that, I am immensely thankful.
