New E&TIM dual Degree: Expanding the ExperienceE&TIM inspires professionals to embody the "T-shaped person--" an individual possessing depth of experience in a technical field is encouraged to extend the breadth of their knowledge to become skilled in innovation management. This juxtaposition of depth of knowledge and breadth of skills reflects the structure of the capital letter "T."
Now E&TIM applicants have an opportunity to expand on the T-shaped experience-- applicants can advance their depth of technical expertise by pursuing dual MS degrees in both a traditional Carnegie Mellon engineering program and the Engineering and Technology Innovation Management program. Traditional MS degree engineering programs that qualify for the E&TIM Dual Degree program are those offered by the College of Engineering (CIT) that include 96-units of coursework.
Dual Degree Program StructureThe flexible E&TIM dual degree option is available as a "sandwich" program which could be completed in two years. Under this option, students would embark on the traditional major program requirements in the fall semester of year one; complete E&TIM program requirements in the subsequent spring semester followed by the E&TIM summer internship project; complete the second semester of E&TIM in the fall of year two; and complete coursework for the traditional engineering degree during the spring of year two.
Dual Degree Program FlexibilityTo participate in the dual degree program, applicants must gain admission to both the E&TIM program as well as a traditional engineering masters program. The structure and curriculum of a dual degree program with E&TIM will vary based on the traditional engineering MS program sought in conjunction with the E&TIM MS. Because the E&TIM program requires technical electives, the dual degree offers additional flexibility to students in the traditional engineering MS programs. Technical electives may count for both the traditional MS program, as well as for the E&TIM program. The dual degree requires a minimum of 168 units. In addition to the "sandwich" structure described above, dual degree candidates may start their studies in January with the E&TIM program, and subsequently complete the traditional engineering component. Course requirements for the E&TIM program as a stand-alone degree can be found on the E&TIM program structure page.
