Undergraduate Research Funding Sources 

Student research, whether as part of the Honors program, a study group, or an individual project, is highly valued and can enhance your career opportunities. The university's Undergraduate Research Office (URO) provides options for students who need financial resources to effectively pursue their projects. Here is a brief list of the types of funding available to undergraduate students. Use the links provided to go to the URO site for detailed information on applications, proposals and deadlines.

Student Undergraduate Research Grants (SURG)

SURG grants are available to any student in good-standing who is enrolled in a degree-granting program. One-person research projects are eligible for up to $500. Teams or group projects are eligible for up to $1,000. The grants are given as cash scholarships and do not affect students' financial aid. Each student application is reviewed by the URO in connection with special funds that have been set up by alumni and other donors. These funds offer students additional opportunities for networking and internships. (Please note: These funds are not separate from or in addition to your SURG grant, but instead are determined to be the source of your SURG grant.)

Summer Research Fellowships

Students can apply for a 10-week Summer Research Fellowship, if they have found a faculty advisor who is willing to support their efforts. The fellowship stipend is $3,000, and is paid to the faculty advisor's department and dispersed to students over the 10-week period. Students must be enrolled in a degree-granting program, be a student in good standing and be returning to school in the summer following their fellowship.

Conference Presentations

Students are encouraged to submit abstracts, papers and presentations to relevant academic conferences. If your paper is accepted and you are presenting at the conference, the URO offers stipends to off set travel and lodging costs, up to $350.
