Student Organizations for Females

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
The NSBE mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively affect the community. The Carnegie Mellon chapter of NSBE participates in activities such as tutorial programs, group study sessions, high school/junior high outreach programs, technical seminars, and workshops in addition to taking advantage of all the resources and opportunities afforded by the national organization.

Society of Hispanic Engineers (SHPE)
The Carnegie Mellon chapter of SHPE strives to increase the number of Hispanic engineering and science students at Carnegie Mellon through the development of programs with industry and the university. These activities are designed to increase career awareness, encourage relationships with professionals, develop leadership skills, and promote academic excellence.

Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
SWE offers scholarship, career, community service, and social opportunities to its members. Some highlights of SWE’s programming and community service include their Technical Opportunities Conference (TOC), High and Middle School Day, and Grad greets. SWE also participates in National Engineers Week, attends the National SWE Convention, and builds a booth for carnival.

Women in ECE (WinECE)
WinECE is an organization for the professional development of women students and alumni in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon. The primary goal of Women in ECE is to help its members develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are necessary for success in their careers. This is achieved through mentoring, outreach, and social events and activities.

Fellowships and Scholarships Office (FSO)
The Fellowships and Scholarships Office (FSO) provides support to students and alumni who are interested in pursuing external scholarships and fellowships. The office works with individuals to help them develop competitive applications for scholarships and fellowships. FSO offers specific opportunities for scholarships for women.

Strong Women, Strong Girls
Strong Women, Strong Girls is a group-based mentoring program between college-aged women and girls in elementary school. Activities focused on skill-building, to help enhance the lives of at-risk girls. Through building positive self-esteem and skills for life-long success, the organization assists to strengthen the futures of all women.

Women's Leadership Program (WLP)
WLP is designed to empower and inspire undergraduate and graduate women in campus leadership roles. Through personal reflection and group discussion, participants are encouraged to explore their leadership styles and the ways in which they are affected or enhanced by gender. Sessions stimulate critical thinking and problem solving skills, while providing opportunities for students to cultivate networks with other women. Participants are selected through a nomination process that occurs each fall.

Women's Center
The Carnegie Mellon Women's Center identifies and addresses the problems, needs, and goals of women on campus and in the larger community. The Center provides information, educational programs, community service, support, and entertainment regarding a broad range of issues and concerns which profoundly affect women's lives.

Mentoring

CIT Women in Engineering Network Initiative
The CIT Women in Engineering Network Initiative fosters in-person relationships between female first-year and sophomore students, alumni, and professional engineers. The emphasis of the program is on developing a supportive relationship, acquiring career guidance, benefiting from professional networking, building confidence, and gaining valuable academic advice.
