First-Year Orientation 2009

August 16 – August 23
Carnegie Mellon Campus

Going away to college is a big transition, and the Orientation program at Carnegie Mellon is designed to make that transition easier. Orientation is a weeklong program organized by current Carnegie Mellon students to introduce incoming students to each other, the campus and local community. Over 115 current students will welcome new students to campus and will work hard throughout Orientation to make sure it is a memorable week and a great introduction to life at Carnegie Mellon.

The programs and events on the opening day of Orientation (Sunday, August 16) will be geared to all family members. After Sunday, the program is for the students. Move-in to the residence halls will begin at 9:00 a.m. on August 16. Programs will continue throughout the day and will include: lunch, resource fair, college meetings, address by Dean of Student Affairs and a Welcome by Jared L. Cohon, President of Carnegie Mellon. Students and family members will receive detailed information about Orientation in late spring and during the summer months.

A mandatory Orientation is scheduled for international students. This program will take place right before the start of the August 16 program. Contact the Office of International Education at 412 268-5231 for more information.

If you have any question about Orientation 2009, please contact Anne R. Witchner, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and Director of Orientation at 412 268-4886 or aw0w@andrew.cmu.edu.
